Return to performing arts is under researched and often requires level of expertise that is founded in experience and not scientific evidence. Pointe shoes work in classical ballet is a portion of ballet where the dancer requires to be in maximum end range closed chain plantarflexion for an extended amount of time. Newer technology has been developed to assist dancers with support, balance and decrease in pain while en pointe and in pointe shoes.

 

The goal of this seminar is to teach healthcare providers on how the fundamental of pointe shoes, including material, types, and terminology to assist dancer and educators on certain specificity of pointe shoes, from novice to the elite ballet dancer.

 

This in person seminar will combine biomechanical understanding of pointe shoes, physiological changes in pointe shoes and common injuries. Clinicians will apply their knowledge to case studies to determine what could be the best fit for pointe shoes as part of the rehabilitation or performance enhancing phase of a dancer’s career.

 

This seminar series is a component of the educational instruction for clinical residency and fellowship programs, but is open also to participants who wish to take the series as a single module for continuing professional education
