Rules and Tips
THE APP
MPIWSC Fantasy Football will use the ESPN Fantasy Football platform. Prior to the start of the season, you will receive an email inviting you to officially join your MPIWSC league. You will then be able to name or rename your team and choose a team logo.
Team owners should bookmark the ESPN Fantasy home login page on their computers/laptops and should also download the ESPN Fantasy Sports and More app to their phone from their app store.
To get the ESPN Fantasy Sports app, go to the Play Store or the App Store, search for ESPN Fantasy Sports, and install the ESPN Fantasy Sports app. Then sign in or create an ESPN account, if you are a first-time user.
Click on the football in the top row to access ESPN Fantasy Football via the app.
Owners can manage their team from either the website or app, but having access to both can be more convenient.

DRAFT
- MPIWSC Fantasy Football Leagues will conduct seperate drafts for each league we form.
- SNAKE DRAFT: The ESPN platform will randomly assign a draft order for the first round. In a snake draft, the team who drafts first in Round 1 will draft last in Round 2. The team drafting last in Round 1, drafts first in Round 2. This snaking approach in a 10-team league would look like this: 1-10, 10-1, 1-10, etc.
- Each team will be allowed 90 seconds per selection.
- If an owner is unable to participate in the live draft, or wants help making selections, they can choose to set their team to AutoDraft. If chosen, AutoDraft will select the "best available player" based on your team's needs or "rules" you outline prior to the draft.
- Most owners prefer to select their own players and some may research options prior to the draft. The ESPN Fantasy Football site provides guidance and player rankings, as do dozens of Fantasy Football magazines available at retailers. But remember, as training camps begin, players may become injured or be cut by their real-life teams. So it is always best to double check on the ESPN site as it will note recent status changes.
- Draft dates and times will be set once the league or leagues are formed, but are scheduled to happen between Sept. 2 and 7, approximately one week prior to the start of the NFL season.
YOUR TEAM AND POSITIONS

ROSTER SIZE: Each team will consist of 16 active players. One injured player may be kept as a 17th inactive player on your roster if they are injured in real life.
STARTERS: Each team will field 9 starters each week in the following positions:
- 1 Quarterback (QB)
- 2 Running Backs (RB)
- 2 Wide Receivers (WR)
- 1 Tight End (TE)
- 1 FLEX player (an RB, WR or TE)
- 1 Defense/Special Team (DEF)
- 1 Placekicker (PK)
BENCH: Each week, 7 of your players will be on the bench and will not contribute to your team's score.
DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS: In the case of the Defense/Special Teams position, you will choose an NFL team, not a specific player. You will receive points based on the team's defense and special teams play.
WAIVERS, FREE AGENTS, TRADES
Throughout the season, owners will find it necessary to make changes to their rosters, oftentimes each and every week. Why? For many reasons:
- A player is injured and cannot play for several weeks or maybe even the rest of the season.
- Each NFL team has one "bye" week each season. If your player's team has a "bye week," they will not play and contribute to your scoring.
- A player may be performing poorly, and you may feel that you'll score more points with another player.
- A player may be "benched" in real life, typically due to poor performance.
Teams can change their rosters via Free Agents, Waivers and Trades.
When a player is undrafted or dropped from a team, the platform will show them as either a Free Agent (FA) or as Waived (W).
These players are shown in the Players section of the ESPN platform and teams can drop a player and claim the free agent in his place. Throughout the season, some players will emerge as unexpected stars and teams can often grab a new superstar to add to their team!
FREE AGENTS: Free agents can be claimed immediately by any team. You must drop a player or have an open roster spot to claim the free agent.
WAIVERS: Waivers are the process by which team owners can select from the pool of available players who are not on a team's roster in the league. They may have been undrafted or dropped by owners. Owners can put a claim for that player, but must wait a specified amount of time until the waiver clears.
The waiver period begins on Tuesday and concludes early on Thursday morning. If more than one team claims a player, the team with the worse record will be awarded the player.
TRADES: Owners can propose trades to other owners within their league. If the other owner accepts the trade, the trade is then subject to review by the other league owners to ensure that there is not collusion among the traders. If 4 owners veto the trade, it is cancelled.
OPPONENTS & STARTING LINE-UP
Each week, your team will play a fantasy game against another team in your league. The schedule is set randomly by the app and is posted at the start of the season.
In MPIWSC Leagues, team managers can make moves to their weekly rosters until the scheduled kickoff time of each player's game. Once a player's game has started, he cannot be moved from starter to bench or bench to starter.
If one of your starters is injured during a game, you cannot make a substitution.
SCORING
Each week, your starting players earn points for your team, based upon their actual performance in their NFL game. Points are awarded as shown in the charts below.

So for example, if one of your starting running backs runs 30 yards and scores a touchdown, your team will receive 6 points for the touchdown, plus 3 points for the 30 yards of rushing.
Points are updated live on the ESPN platform. You can follow your matchup with your opponent. A Fantasy Football match-up can take several days to be completed, depending on the NFL schedule and your the game times for your players and your opponent's players. Weekly NFL games typically start on Thursday evening and end with Monday Night Football.
