About the Family Support Fund Benefiting Boston Children’s Hospital

Bernice and Philip Frieze founded the Family Support Fund benefiting Boston Children’s Hospital in 1974 to help families whose children are treated at the hospital. The fund provides assistance for their emergency needs and the indirect expenses of a child’s diagnosis, treatment and hospitalization, which are often not covered by insurance or any government programs.

Through your participation at our annual charity golf tournament and the generosity of our donors, we have raised $7.1 million for the fund since 1994 helping Boston Children’s Hospital cover groceries and food, rent, utility bills and transportation costs to meet families’ needs.

The fund helped Boston Children's Hospital disburse over $800,000 in 2025 and supported:

• Monthly bills for 400 families to meet basic but vital needs including water, electricity, fuel/gas
• More than $225,000 for either temporary family housing or monthly rent or mortgage payments
• More than 2,000 vouchers for hospital's food court
• 2,200 rides covered for essential medical transportation 
• More than 3,000 gift cards for essentials
