Intimate Partner Violence and Firearms
In this session, Dr. Zeoli will present research on the use of firearms in intimate partner violence and the fatal and nonfatal consequences of those uses. The nuances of how firearms remain an ever-present threat for victimized partners will be discussed, as well as the homicides, homicide-suicides, and mass shootings that may result from intimate partner firearm violence. Policy approaches to preventing intimate partner firearm violence will be presented.

Extreme Risk Protective Orders in the Context of Intimate Partner Violence
Extreme risk protective orders (ERPOs), also known as red flag orders, are civil court orders that temporarily restrict an individual the court deems dangerous from purchasing or possessing a firearm. In this session, Dr. Zeoli will discuss how ERPOs work and their use in cases of intimate partner violence. Differences between ERPOs and domestic violence protective orders and reasons for choosing one over the other (or choosing both) will also be discussed.
Part 3: August 6th, 2026

Intimate Partner Homicide, Homicide-Suicides, and Mass Shootings: Potential for Prevention
Intimate partner homicide is more likely to include a suicide or additional homicide deaths than other types of homicide. This session will cover risk factors for when intimate partner violence may become deadly. Additionally, laws that may prevent firearm violence through restricting legal access to firearms for individuals known to commit intimate partner violence will be detailed, as well as research outcomes on effectiveness and the challenges of implementing those laws.
