Ages 7+
Join us for a four-week ceramics course designed to build foundational clay skills through hands-on projects and creative exploration. Each week, students will learn a new handbuilding technique while developing craftsmanship, problem-solving abilities, and confidence in the ceramic studio.
Any extra time following the projects can be treated like Open Studio work time for students.
Week 1: Clay Creatures (August 6)
Create a playful animal, monster, or imaginary creature using basic handbuilding techniques. Students will learn how to combine simple clay forms and securely attach details like ears, eyes, tails, and other features.
Week 2: Miniature Garden (August 13)
Create a small collection of clay garden-inspired objects, such as mushrooms, flowers, insects, or tiny garden creatures. Students can use their imagination to design a miniature world of their own.
Week 3: Texture Tiles (August 20)
Explore the textures found in nature and everyday life to create a unique clay tile. Students will press, stamp, and carve patterns into the clay to create their own textured designs.
Week 4: Finishing Up and Glazing (August 27)
Students will use this week as a chance to catch up on unfinished work and complete glazing bisque fired pieces.
Throughout the series, students will have opportunities for independent studio exploration, experimentation, and personalized guidance as they grow their ceramic skills and creative confidence.
