With a focus on safety, this course teaches technicians and support team members the fundamentals of working with natural gas as a vehicle fuel.

Natural gas behaves differently than gasoline or diesel fuels and, on CNG vehicles, portions of the fuel system operate at extremely high pressures (3,600 psi). LNG vehicles use cryogenic (-260 degrees Fahrenheit) fuel systems. While both types of fuel systems are very safe, they require unique components and special safety procedures for all levels of routine maintenance, diagnostics and repair.

This on-demand e-learning option contains all the information in our instructor-led version and includes knowledge checks and a final exam. The training is broken into smaller learning modules and will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain the properties and characteristics of natural gas
  • Compare natural gas, gasoline and diesel fuels
  • Recognize all major low- and high-pressure CNG and LNG fuel system components; describe their operation and safety features
  • Describe the differences between dedicated, bi-fuel, and dual-fuel NGVs
  • Employ safety precautions and techniques when servicing natural gas-powered vehicles
  • Understand CNG and LNG fueling station equipment, safety devices, operation and fueling procedures
  • Identify CNG and LNG defueling methods and related safety precautions
