Exploring Gig Based Learning (Brisbane)

Discover a practical, classroom ready approach to contemporary music teaching through the Gig Based Learning approach.

This FREE workshop is designed for QLD music educators looking to increase engagement, build student confidence, and create meaningful ensemble experiences from the very first lesson. Through a series of hands-on sessions, you will explore how students can step into authentic band roles, develop musical skills in context, and experience the collaborative nature of real world music making.

The day begins with a live demonstration of the GBL Gig Kits in action. Cover Band Gig Kits include simplified cover versions of songs that students can learn through video guided practice sessions. This allows students to start playing together almost immediately while developing ensemble awareness and musical understanding. Original Band Gig Kits provide structure and scaffolds for collaborative song writing and music production to simplify and streamline the process of music creation in the classroom.

From there, the focus shifts to supporting teachers, with a look at lesson structures, scaffolded learning sequences, and integrated classroom activities using music software. You will see how our gigs can be used purposefully to reinforce musical concepts and streamline delivery.

The final session explores how the Music EDnet Community of Practice and broader membership model supports teachers and music departments holistically around the integration of technology, providing access to more teaching resources, ideas, and flexible professional learning options.
