Seeing Learning Clearly: The Art and Science of Knowing Your Impact
This virtual institute immerses us in the core practices of Know Thy Impact—the disciplined, intentional work of making learning visible and using evidence to guide instructional decisions. Together, we will explore how expert teachers notice learning as it unfolds, generate and gather meaningful evidence, and interpret that evidence in ways that sharpen their impact on student growth.
Throughout the institute, we will examine what high‑quality evidence looks like, how to design learning experiences that naturally surface it, and how to use that evidence to adjust instruction in real time. We will practice analyzing student thinking, identifying patterns, and determining next steps that move learning forward.
This institute emphasizes practical tools and routines—such as success criteria, hinge questions, student work analysis protocols, and micro‑formative checks—that help teachers see what students know, what they misunderstand, and what they are ready for next. By the end, we will have a clear, actionable framework for noticing learning with greater precision and responding with greater impact.
Learning Intention
Today we are learning about making learning visible so that we can use evidence of learning to guide instructional decisions that increase their impact on student outcomes.
Success Criteria
By the end of the institute:
1. I can generate and gather meaningful evidence of learning.
2. I can notice and interpret evidence with greater precision.
3. I can use evidence to make informed instructional decisions.
