This 2-credit, 4-week course is entirely self-paced.
Participants will be expected to begin the course once registration is processed and an email has been received from the instructor with instructions on how to get started.
All assignments, discussions, and final project work are due at the end of the 4-week course to receive credit for the course.
Course Description
This course equips educators with practical strategies to support English Language Learners (ELLs) in diverse classroom settings. Participants will explore research-based instructional techniques, including scaffolding, language development strategies, and differentiation to enhance content comprehension and language acquisition. The course will explore how to foster meaningful student engagement and best practices for assessment and feedback. Through interactive discussions, lesson planning, and real-world applications, educators will gain confidence in creating inclusive learning environments that empower ELLs to succeed academically and linguistically.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to...
- Implement effective scaffolding techniques.
- Apply instructional strategies that support ELLs in accessing grade-level content while developing language skills.
- Differentiate instruction for language proficiency levels.
- Adapt lessons and materials to meet the diverse linguistic needs of ELL students.
- Use strategies such as academic vocabulary support and interactive activities to promote language acquisition in all subjects.
- Assess and provide meaningful feedback.
- Utilize formative and summative assessments tailored to ELLs and provide constructive feedback that supports both content learning and language growth.

- Be sure to check your junk/spam/clutter folder-mailboxes in case the email address isn't recognized as a known address; and
- IF YOU ARE USING A SCHOOL EMAIL ADDRESS, many schools have their network security filters set up to push unknown emails directly to spam and you will not even see it; if this is the case you will need to either talk to your IT department and request emails with the email address be allowed through or let us know you want to use a different email address.

- The Syllabus gives information of what will be expected of you in the course. Generally it will include course policies, rules and regulations, required texts, and a schedule of assignments;
