CQuIPS Symposium Call for Abstracts 2026

We are excited to announce the call for abstracts for the Annual CQuIPS Symposium that will take place on November 10, 2026 in Toronto. Abstract submissions will be considered for oral presentations, on-site poster presentations and virtual posters on the CQuIPS+ virtual platform.

Submission deadline: June 19, 2026

Submission topics and selection

· Submissions should focus on either:

· A quality improvement and/or patient safety (QIPS) project that demonstrates results and/or lessons learned; or

· Research focused on quality improvement and/or patient safety

· Abstracts with preliminary or final results will be considered for selection

· Submissions on all topics related to quality improvement and patient safety are welcome, with priority given to those that relate to health equity or health system resilience (the two thematic strategic priorities of CQuIPS) or that have engaged with patients and caregivers as part of the improvement process and on improvement teams

· Posters will be selected based on:

. Originality and innovativeness

. Analysis of quality or knowledge gap

. Methodological rigour

. Quality of data

. Learning value

. Clarity and completeness of abstract

 

Guidelines for submission

Submitted abstracts are a maximum of 350 words and one figure or table, and should include the following information (as applicable):

· Background/context – What is the problem of interest? Provide a brief description of the background/context

· Aim – What is the aim of your project?

· Measures – What are the outcomes/process/balance measures? How do you know if your project/research resulted in an improvement?

· Equity considerations (if any) -- How did your project attend to equity considerations or address health inequities?

· Engagement -- Please describe how patient partners, persons with lived or living experience were engaged and how their perspectives were embedded into the improvement work

· Improvement/innovation/change concepts – Briefly describe the outcomes, program design, change ideas and how they have been implemented, as applicable.

· Impact/results – Did your changes result in an improvement? Summarize key outcomes and/or results and describe the extent to which the initiative has demonstrated an impact on health outcomes patient/provider experience and/or health system performance. Preliminary results will be considered.

· Discussion/lessons learned – What challenges did you experience and how did you overcome them? What key lessons were learned? What are the next steps?

 

Call for QIPS RESEARCH

· Background – What is the gap in the literature that this study aims to address and what is the purpose of your study?

· Methods – What methodological approach and methods did you use for your study?

· Results – What are the findings of your study?

· Conclusion – What are the conclusions and implications of your study findings?

· Equity considerations (if any) - How did your project attend to equity considerations or address health inequities?

· Engagement-- Please describe how patient partners, persons with lived or living experience were engaged and how their perspectives were embedded into the research

 

Abstract Formats

As part of the abstract submission process, there will be the opportunity to indicate which of the formats are preferred. After review by members of the CQuIPS Symposium planning committee, accepted abstracts will be offered one of three presentation formats.

Format 1: Oral Presentation

One project team member will deliver a 10-12 min oral presentation in person at the Symposium during a designated timeslot in the morning or afternoon breakout session. More guidance will be shared upon notice of acceptance.

Format 2: On-Site Poster Presentation

Selected abstract presenters will post a printed poster at the Symposium. More details regarding the poster dimensions, printing format and presenter requirements will be shared upon notice of acceptance.

Format 3: Virtual Poster Presentation

Abstracts selected for virtual posters only will create an e-poster which will be displayed on the CQuIPS+ website. More details regarding the process of poster details and uploading instructions will be shared upon notice of acceptance

NOTE: If your abstract is accepted for any of the three formats, at least one member of your project team will need to register and attend the Symposium. One team member will receive a reduced rate for their Symposium registration.

 

** New for 2026: Patient Partner Scholarships

Guided by the Patients Included principles, CQuIPS is offering up to 10 patient partner scholarships to support one patient partner / person with lived or living experience who contributed to the work being submitted to attend the CQuIPS Symposium. The scholarship covers the full registration fee and travel costs with the Greater Toronto Area for one patient partner to attend the Symposium. 

Teams indicating that they would like to be considered for a patient partnership scholarship will need to provide an additional 150-word submission providing a clear description for how patient partners contributed to the work and how attendance at the Symposium would support the growth and ongoing involvement of patient partners in their future QI or research activities.

· Jun 19, 2026 – Deadline for abstract submission

· Sep 7, 2026 – Notification of acceptance + format

· Oct 24, 2026 – CQuIPS+ poster upload deadline for virtual posters

· Nov 3, 2026 – Oral presentation slides to be sent to CQuIPS

· Nov 10, 2026 – Annual CQuIPS Symposium
