How AI is Changing the Workplace

AI is changing how companies operate, how people work, and what auditors need to look for. This session is a practical look at AI inside a company, from someone responsible for securing it.

How AI works. We'll cover what AI is and what it isn't, how large language models produce answers, and why this wave of adoption is moving faster than past waves of technology. We'll also explain terms you keep hearing, like machine learning, foundation models, and AI agents to provide a baseline understanding of the technology.

What can go wrong? AI creates risks that most control frameworks weren't built for. Examples include and case studies will include prompt injection, sensitive data pasted into AI tools, employees using tools nobody approved, risky plugins and integrations, and AI agents that act in autonomous and unexpected ways.

What good looks like. Last, we will discuss what we walk through the lessons we’ve learned at Coinbase, including setting up appropriate technical controls, a governance program, managing AI vendors, and preparing for AI-related incidents.  We will also discuss how we weigh the risk vs rewards to fully embracing AI across the workplace, and how we manage those risk tradeoffs.

You will leave the session with a working understanding of how AI works, what it is capable of doing, and how companies can manage the risks that go along with becoming “AI Native”.
