About the event
Who has shaped the way you understand yourself and the world around you?
Essayist, poet and award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl will discuss Lessons from My Teachers, a collection of reflections on the teachers, mentors and experiences that have transformed her education and her life.
Based on her popular class at Yale, Lessons from My Teachers is anchored in stories both personal and universal, drawing on Ruhl’s experiences with her parents and children, with schoolteachers, creative influences and beyond. Lessons from My Teachers pays tribute to the people we learn from throughout our lives—and the unexpected ways we become teachers to others.
The book reveals Ruhl's tremendous gratitude for her teachers and how she lives her life oriented as “a student in the world.” Her stories promise to inspire similar memories of the teachers who've shaped our lives.
About Sarah Ruhl
Sarah Ruhl is an award-winning playwright, author, essayist and professor whose work has been produced on Broadway, across the United States and internationally, and translated into 14 languages. A two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, she teaches at the Yale School of Drama and is the author of this year’s Buffs One Read selection, Lessons from My Teachers.
