Ages 10+

Join us for a four-week ceramics course designed to build foundational clay skills through hands-on projects and creative exploration. Each week, students will learn a new handbuilding technique while developing craftsmanship, problem-solving abilities, and confidence in the ceramic studio. Sign up for one week, or all four!

The first hour will be the Skill Series, the second hour will be used like Open Studio work time. Come for one or both!

Week 1: Coil Building (July 2)
Discover one of the oldest ceramic techniques as we learn how to roll, stack, and blend coils to create vessels, sculptures, and imaginative forms. Students will focus on joining techniques, structure, and surface design.

Week 2: Slab Construction (July 9)
Explore the versatility of rolled clay slabs as we create functional and sculptural pieces. Students will learn how to measure, cut, score, and assemble slabs to construct forms such as boxes, houses, mugs, or containers.

Week 3: Pinch Pots & Form Development (July 16)
Starting with the simple pinch pot, students will learn how to shape, alter, combine, and transform forms into animals, characters, bowls, or other creative creations. Emphasis will be placed on form, texture, and personal expression.

Week 4: Surface Design & Finishing (July 23)
Bring projects to life through texture, carving, underglazes, and decorative techniques. Students will refine their work, add details, and prepare selected pieces for firing while learning how surface treatments can enhance both form and function.

Throughout the series, students will have opportunities for independent studio exploration, experimentation, and personalized guidance as they grow their ceramic skills and creative confidence.
