About - State Action Summit

This December, State Innovation Exchange (SiX) will convene hundreds of state lawmakers alongside movement partners, organizers, and policy leaders in Tempe, Arizona, for the State Action Summit. For over ten years, SiX has organized the nation’s largest network of progressive state legislators—more than 1,800 members, representing nearly one in four state lawmakers nationwide. The State Action Summit will activate this network, forging collective power through strategic alignment, shared experience, and cross-state collaboration.

At a moment of coordinated authoritarian threats and escalating attacks on our rights, states sit at the epicenter of progress. Hosting the State Action Summit in Tempe grounds this convening in the Southwest, a region that reflects both the urgency of today’s political challenges and the strength of multiracial, cross-border movements. From immigration to voting rights, tax justice to worker power, climate justice to reproductive justice, the Southwest demonstrates that state power is inseparable from regional and global solidarity.

When leaders leave Tempe, they will carry actionable tools, strengthened alliances, and a renewed sense of resolve, grounded in collective power and collaborative governance.

At the State Action Summit, legislators and advocates will:

Strategize together to defeat authoritarianism by aligning on national and cross-state approaches that strengthen democracy and challenge concentrated economic power from the ground up.
Organize creatively for collective power, sharing innovative governing and organizing strategies that translate values into action.
Amplify our powerful community of legislators and partners rooted in trust, solidarity, and shared purpose.
Collaborate across issues and borders to develop intersectional solutions that reflect the real lives of our communities and constituents.
Center legislators’ full humanity by creating healing spaces to build the resilience needed to govern sustainably.
