CAREER DEVELOPMENT SERIES – Empowering Faculty to Champion Career Readiness

The second session of the SOCHE Career Development Series will be “Empowering Faculty to Champion Career Readiness,” hosted on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 12-1 p.m. ET via Zoom. Aaron Sturgill, Executive Director of Career Services at Ohio University, will be presenting. 

In today’s rapidly evolving career landscape, students are increasingly looking for guidance on how their academic experiences translate into real-world opportunities. This session explores how Ohio University is addressing that need by launching a Career Development Faculty Learning Community (FLC)—an initiative designed to empower faculty to embed career readiness into their teaching and advising.

Through intentional collaboration between academic and career units, the FLC helps faculty develop discipline-specific strategies to lead career-related conversations, connect students with relevant resources, and articulate the long-term value of their degrees. Participants in the FLC also complete a final project that aligns career pathways with their field of study, helping to create lasting, scalable impact within their departments. 

Attendees will gain insights into how this model promotes student career confidence, enhances faculty engagement, and reinforces institutional priorities around career readiness. Professionals in academic affairs, career services, and leadership roles will find practical strategies and adaptable tools to strengthen their campus-wide career ecosystem.
