Course Summary
Radiology plays an important role in both diagnosis and treatment planning of patients. With the introduction of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), a new era of three-dimensional imaging has begun in dentistry. This course aims to educate general practitioners and dental specialists on CBCT utilization and/or ownership.
This program will include a didactic portion and a pactical rclinical portion that utilizes the CBCT unit at McGill Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences. The didactic component livestream on Friday morning and afternoon will introduce the participants the principles of CBCT technology and its applications. In the Saturday morning session, there will be a practical exercise in which the participants will be trained on how to acquire CBCT scans and how to use 3D viewer software to interpret images.
IMPORTANT: The image viewing software is not supported by Apple computers. Please bring a PC laptop and a mouse.
This course meets the requirements set out by the Order des dentistes du Quebec (ODQ) for use of CBCT as well as qualifies as a Category 2 course by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) .
Course Objectives
● Understand the operating principles of CBCT equipment
● Gain experience in preparing and applying CBCT examination protocols
● Learn the indications and contra-indications for CBCT examinations
● Learn to utilize 3D viewer software to visualize CBCT images
