Course Summaries:

1) Mastering Modern Periodontics - September 27, 2025:
with Ilay Maden, BDS, MSc, PhD, Periodontology Specialist

"Mastering Modern Periodontics" is a comprehensive continuing education program tailored for dental professionals seeking to enhance their clinical expertise in contemporary periodontics. This course emphasizes recent advancements and innovative approaches in managing periodontal and peri-implant diseases, highlighting minimally invasive techniques and laser-assisted therapies. Both Er:YAG and Nd:YAG lasers have revolutionized periodontal therapy by offering more precise, effective, and patient-friendly treatments compared to conventional methods. Their ability to selectively target bacteria, promote regeneration, and minimize tissue trauma makes them valuable tools in modern periodontics.

Participants will explore cutting-edge protocols including laser-tissue interactions, advanced periodontal and peri-implant therapies, photoacoustic irrigation cleaning techniques, and advanced methods in post-extraction ridge preservation. Through a combination of lectures, interactive sessions, hands-on experiences, and in-depth clinical case discussions, attendees will increase their understanding of both surgical and non-surgical periodontal treatments.

This program is designed to provide participants not only with comprehensive theoretical knowledge but also practical insights into implementing these advanced periodontal procedures effectively in daily clinical practice, ultimately improving patient outcomes and practice efficiency.

2) Laser Enhanced-Endodontics: boosting disinfection, achieving predictable outcomes - October 18, 2025:
with Aldo Manzur. DDS, MSc, FRCD(C)

This continuing education course is tailored for dental professionals who want to advance their understanding of modern endodontic disinfection techniques and emerging technologies. Over the past two decades, endodontics has experienced a surge in innovation—from the introduction of NiTi shaping systems and biocompatible materials to the widespread adoption of CBCT for enhanced diagnostics.

These minimally invasive advancements have emphasized the importance of conserving tooth structure, but the foundation of successful endodontic therapy still rests on effective cleaning and disinfection of the root canal system. In this context, laser-activated irrigation—especially SWEEPS (Shock Wave Enhanced Emission Photoacoustic Streaming) technology—has emerged as a groundbreaking solution for three-dimensional canal cleaning.

This technique employs Er:YAG lasers to activate traditional irrigants such as sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and EDTA, significantly improving debridement and disinfection. While it enhances traditional instrumentation, it does not replace it. From the early use of Single Super Short Pulse (SSP) to today’s advanced Dual Ultra Short Pulse (SWEEPS) technology, these methods are supported by robust research and clinical validation.

Through engaging lectures, case-based discussions, and hands-on demonstrations, participants will learn how to integrate laser-assisted irrigation into everyday practice—enhancing outcomes and increasing treatment predictability.

3) Advances in Sleep Dentistry - November 22, 2025:
with Harvey S. Shiffman D.D.S.

The "Advances in Sleep Dentistry" continuing education program is designed for dental and medical professionals seeking comprehensive knowledge and clinical insights into contemporary airway management and sleep dentistry. This course focuses on the innovative Nightlase treatment protocol, providing a thorough overview of its development, mechanism of action, and clinical application for addressing airway-related sleep disorders.

Participants will engage deeply with the fundamentals of airway anatomy, tissue biology, and the biological mechanisms underpinning Nightlase. The program also encompasses vital medico-legal considerations, comprehensive screening methods, diagnostic tools including sleep studies and 3DCT scans, as well as the exploration of adjunctive therapies and alternative treatments. Detailed clinical protocols and procedural variations will be discussed thoroughly, supported by clinical videos and case presentations.

This advanced training ensures that participants are proficient in safely and effectively integrating Nightlase and related techniques into their practices, enhancing patient care for sleep-related breathing disorders.
