Event Description
Biodiversity is declining faster than at any time in human history, and the pressures driving this decline are still increasing. Over half of the global economy is dependent on well-functioning ecosystems. Further loss of biodiversity could pose risks to financial markets. Reversing biodiversity and ecosystem loss is essential to preserve wealth and well-being.

At the COP 15, the UN Biodiversity Conference, in December 2022 countries plan to agree a new global treaty to halt and reverse losses of the planet’s plants, animals and ecosystems. The meeting hopes to set both long-term goals, mid-century and shorter-term targets for 2030 to be included in national policies.

The financial sector and the asset management industry have a crucial role to play in helping to prevent further biodiversity loss. This is not something that is simply ‘nice to have’ in the context of sustainable investing: it is in the long-term interest of clients and investment performance, along with the duty to do our best to use financial muscle to contribute to protect the planet. It’s no longer just a question of avoiding those companies that are responsible for biodiversity loss through environmentally damaging operations. We must also embrace those that are striving to protect biodiversity, directing more capital towards these sort of sustainable enterprises.

Organized by the CFA Society Singapore, Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) Singapore and Robeco, this webinar is part of the Sustainability Lecture Series which aims to provide the latest knowledge on sustainable investing.

A Certificate of Attendance (COA) with 1.0 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hour (non-core) will be issued based on participants' attendance records.

During this webinar, Ghislaine Nadaud, Senior Sustainable Investing Specialist, and Laura Bosch Ferreté, Sustainable Investing Specialist will discuss how the financial sector and the asset management industry can address biodiversity issues, through for example dedicated engagement programs, policy development, the TNFD, and by assessing biodiversity as a material factor in the ESG integration process. We will also discuss the challenges that the financial industry faces in managing biodiversity loss and the need for collaboration.
