About the Meeting

This year’s Safety Summit will again feature many opportunities for peer exchange of experiences among the states, networking with practitioners from all levels in state DOTs and industry, and sessions co-hosted by other AASHTO committees. We will also include safety partner organizations and will continue to branch out into alternative session formats.

The primary goal of the Summit is to share information through both session discussions and ad hoc conversations during meals, breaks, and the reception. Come prepared to talk, ask questions, take notes, share your organization’s successes and challenges with others, and take ideas home to your agency!

New this year is a Committee on Safety business meeting, which will be held Sunday evening before the Safety Summit starts Monday morning. COS and Subcommittee members, come meet or catch up with peers in other states to discuss committee priorities and activities.

The Safety Summit will provide a forum for:

  • Exchanging information and ideas on safety practices among leadership, managerial, and practitioner-level representatives of state departments of transportation.
  • Discussing evolving strategies for addressing safety issues across all elements of a safe transportation system.
  • Collaborating across the state DOT and the roadway lifecycle, as well as with external partners, to work toward common safety goals.

The Summit will present a diverse and practical program that highlights, with each session designed to have a primary format of interaction and conversation among participants, presenters, panelists, and moderators. The mix of plenary and concurrent sessions will provide opportunities for discussion on national topics of joint interest and more in-depth program-level peer exchange conversations.

There will be a workshop on Tuesday evening held by the AASHTOWare Safety by Numetric team.

This year, we will also continue the poster networking reception to allow states further opportunities to show off the safety work they have been doing. More information will be available shortly.
