Itinerary
Daily Mass will be provided each day, as well as opportunities for confession
July 17: Depart USA to Scotland
Depart USA for Edinburgh.
July 18: Arrive in Edinburgh
Arrive in Edinburgh. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore, and then meet up for a Mass and a welcome dinner before a great night's sleep.

July 19: Explore Catholic Edinburgh
Explore Catholic gems in Edinburgh including the 12th century stone chapel dedicated to St. Margaret, St. Mary's Metropolitan Cathedral, St. Patrick's church, and the parish church where St. Cuthbert preached.

July 20: Day trip to St. Andrew's
Explore historic St. Andrew's including the ruins of St. Andrew's Cathedral, which was a major medieval pilgrimage site to venerate the Apostle's relics before the cathedral's destruction during the Protestant Reformation.
Experienced golfers may have an opportunity to golf along St. Andrew's world-renowned greens (more information will be provided) before returning to Edinburgh for the evening.

July 21: Drive along St. Cuthbert's Way
Today we begin our journey along St. Cuthbert's Way, starting in Melrose. We will visit Melrose Abbey, a 12th century Cistercian monastery where St. Cuthbert entered religious life and served as prior.
Later we will drive along the beautiful Scottish countryside and enjoy views of the Tweed River Valley.
We will visit St. Cuthbert's cave, where the saint is believed to have lived at one point, and where monks laid his body to rest before his remains were moved to Durham.
Stay overnight on Lindisfarne, the Holy Island where saint Cuthbert lived and died.
A good meal and comfortable pub await!

July 22: Walk Tidal Causeway, Explore Holy Island
Adventure seekers will have the opportunity to cross the tidal causeway into the Holy Island. Our driver will bring us to the beginning of trail that is only capable of being safely crossed at low tide. Bring your water shoes!
Celebrate Mass on the Holy Island and enjoy the day in the coastal town. Experience the rich history of the Holy Island, Lindisfarne priory founded by St. Aidan, an Irish monk, St. Mary's church, and the Lindisfarne castle.

July 23: Visit St. Cuthbert's tomb in Durham
In the morning we will leave for Durham to see the resting places of St. Cuthbert and St. Bede in the Durham Cathedral. We will celebrate Mass and enjoy a group dinner with time to explore the city.

July 24: Retreat at Ampleforth Abbey
After breakfast in Durham, we will drive down to the famous Benedictine Abbey in Ampleforth to enjoy a restful day of retreat and reflection. This Abbey is the Mother Abbey of St. Louis Abbey in Missouri.
We will have time to take in all the spiritual graces of the pilgrimage with Mass and will listen to theological reflections before driving back to Durham for a special farewell dinner at a fine dining restaurant.

July 25: Departure Day
Celebrate a morning traveler's Sunday Mass before departing for the airport to take flights back to the USA.

- Hotel accommodations: 7 nights (3 nights in a 4-star hotel in Edinburgh, 2 nights at a bed & breakfast in the coastal town of Lindisfarne, and 2 nights at a 4-star hotel in Durham. Pilgrimage pricing assumes double occupancy, and includes a single supplement charge for solo travelers.
- Meals provided as noted on the above itinerary (several meals on own, others included).
- Private driver and tour guide to accompany us on our journey.
Flight Information
Flights are not included on this pilgrimage and must be bought individually.
We will provide flight guidelines and arrival/departure times, as well as group transportation from the airport in the UK to help coordinate travel. Pilgrims are welcome to book their own flights and coordinate layovers with the "over the water" flight from the US if they would like to travel with others.
The Augustine Institute faculty and staff will likely fly directly from St. Louis to London Heathrow to Edinburgh.
