Europe’s ports are entering a decisive decade amid a rapidly transforming regulatory landscape. The Fit for 55 package, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) with its 2030 Onshore Power Supply (OPS) mandate, and FuelEU Maritime set ambitious expectations for clean shipping and port infrastructure. Coupled with EU funding opportunities–including the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the Innovation Fund, Horizon Europe, and other green finance initiatives–these developments create both urgency and support for accelerating port electrification.

Ports are critical nodes in the European and global transportation network, and electrifying port infrastructure and operations has emerged as a cornerstone of Europe’s sustainability ambitions. From shore power and towage to stevedoring, warehousing, and transport, electrification offers a long-term solution to curb emissions, enhance operational efficiency, strengthen energy resilience, and improve competitiveness. While the vision is clear, the transition is challenging, requiring close collaboration among all key stakeholders across the port and energy ecosystem.

Against this backdrop, Global Transmission Report is excited to launch the Port Electrification Europe Conference, taking place on April 16, 2026, at Mercure Amsterdam City, Netherlands. The event will bring together port authorities, terminal operators, regulators, technology providers, energy suppliers, and grid planners to exchange insights, showcase pioneering projects, and explore practical solutions to the technical, operational, and regulatory challenges of port electrification.

This inaugural conference builds on the success of our Port Electrification series in the US. Over the past three years, this series convened hundreds of stakeholders to discuss how US ports are meeting rising energy demands, transitioning to zero-emission equipment, and responding to rapidly evolving decarbonisation mandates. This European edition will focus on the continent’s unique regulatory context and operational environment.

Participants will gain the knowledge, networks, and insights needed to accelerate port electrification, enhance operational efficiency, and align their initiatives with Europe’s climate and energy transition goals.
