Course Description:
In this in-service, we will discuss assessment and treatment of impairments with gaze instability and motion sensitivity in vestibular populations. This will include distinctions between interventions that are targeted towards vestibular hypofunction vs concussion as there can be some overlap in these two areas, but nuances to treatment. We will also discuss ways to add complexity to gaze stability (VOR) exercises including various speeds, balance loads, and dual-tasking and creative ways to implement habituation programs.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this course participants will be able to:
1. Describe the etiology of vestibular hypofunction vs central vestibular disorder (post concussion syndrome)
2. Assess motion sensitivity with the modified MSQ and apply interventions
3. Understand indications to treat impaired gaze stability with the DVA test and how to progress or regress exercises
4. Explain vestibular/concussion CPGs pertaining to vision/dizziness and know when to refer to OT and neuro-optometry to stay within our scope and ensure patient's are seeing the correct providers.
