A SUMMIT-P Learning Community for Building Curriculum through Interdisciplinary Faculty Partnerships

Introductory mathematics primarily serves students in partner disciplines as a prerequisite for their major’s content courses. This Learning Community will walk teams of interdisciplinary faculty through the establishment of a robust, local partnership to develop, deliver, and maintain course content that is relevant for the students in partnering departments.  The ideal workshop participants would be 1-3 math faculty who teach and/or coordinate a lower level mathematics course that serves as a prerequisite or corequisite for one or more partner disciplines (Business, Sciences, Engineering, Health, etc.) along with one or more partner discipline faculty.   

We will use collaboration techniques established, refined, and studied in connection with the SUMMIT-P Consortium: A National Consortium for Synergistic Undergraduate Mathematics via Multi-institutional Interdisciplinary Teaching Partnerships (NSF DUE-1625557), as published in two special issues of the Journal of Mathematics and Science: Collaborative Explorations Volume 16, Number 1 (2020) and Volume 18, Number 1 (2022). https://summitp.org/ 

Funding is available to support up to six institutional teams to implement the curriculum work on their campus after completion of the workshop.

Workshop Format & Schedule

This is a Learning Community, meeting for regular, shorter sessions throughout the semester, where participants will implement pedagogical practices and return for feedback and support.

In lieu of a registration fee, this workshop has an application process. Workshop leaders will review applications and accept participants on a rolling basis until all slots are filled.

Please note that as a federally funded program, MAA OPEN Math can only accept participants from the U.S. and its territories, and Canada.
