
TThe FDIC Office of Risk Management and Internal Controls (ORMIC) is proud to host its fifth annual ERM Risk Awareness Symposium. The purpose of this symposium is to provide attendees the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of key risks facing the FDIC. Presentation topics are:
1) Office of the Ombudsman Overview
2) Resolution Planning for Banks with Non-Traditional Business Models or Assets
3) How the FDIC Protects its Infrastructure from Cyberattacks
4) Economic and Banking Conditions
2026 ERM RISK AWARENESS SYMPOSIUM

Location: Bair Auditorium, Virginia Square (limited to the first 300 registrants) and Virtual.
In-person attendance by headquarters staff is encouraged. Please note that travel is not authorized.

Benefits: The symposium will increase participants’ understanding of key risks facing the FDIC. Attendees may earn up to four Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits for attending the symposium.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the symposium, participants will be able to:
- Describe the mission and functions of the FDIC Ombudsman
- Explain how we promote fairness, transparency, and consistency
- Analyze examples of Ombudsman collaboration with FDIC staff
- Assess the Ombudsman’s role as a change agent
- Explain how DRR’s statutory resolution responsibilities apply to failing institutions with non-traditional activities
- Apply DRR’s digital asset operational readiness framework to distinguish among key resolution paths
- Identify key resolvability risks and dependencies across the nine digital asset use cases
- Describe DRR’s planned mitigation strategies including contractor support for execution of the Digital Asset Resolution Plan
- Describe at least two security controls that help protect your FDIC laptop
- Identify at least three pillars of the Zero Trust Architecture
- Describe how current economic conditions impact bank credit quality and profitability
- Discuss interest rate developments and the impact on banks
- Identify key trends in the banking sector
