Allow us to reintroduce ourselves. Welcome to Daniel Stowe Conservancy, 380 acres of beautiful conserved land open to the public seven days a week. We’re just 20 miles from Uptown Charlotte on the shores of Lake Wylie in Belmont, NC and serve as our community’s backyard and path to nature. We’re also proud to be a nonprofit organization, dedicating the funding we receive from our generous visitors, members and donors to investing back in the property. We’re determined to preserve its natural beauty and provide a space for outdoor community-building, learning and exploration.
The Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens are the centerpiece and crown jewel of Stowe. Set aside in 1991, and opened in 1999 by retired textile magnate Daniel J. Stowe, Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden has been an inspiration to the community and the region for nearly three decades. We’re proud of our legacy as Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and look forward to our bright future as Daniel Stowe Conservancy, a place that takes you out of the chaos of the world and onto a path that explores nature in all its forms.
This path will take you as far as you dare to go. Across rows of gardens where unique flowers unveil their beauty. Along a network of trails that navigate forests and riverbanks. To a shoreline where there are no trails, only the wake a paddle makes. Welcome all, to your path to nature.
Discovery Place Science
Discovery Place Science is an innovative, hands-on Museum in Uptown Charlotte that encourages scientific exploration and creativity. Our diverse aquariums will captivate your senses as you learn about the fascinating world of underwater creatures; our state-of-the-art lab spaces provide space to design, create and innovate; and don’t forget about the indoor rainforest where you can experience the sights and sounds of the jungle up close. Discovery Place Science is sure to spark imaginations of all ages!
Discovery Place is a 501c3 nonprofit and a hub for science education and exploration in the Carolinas with four distinct museum experiences serving more than 750,000 people a year through Museum visits, interactive educational programming and community outreach initiatives.
We aspire to shape a future where people embrace science to create opportunities, build hope, solve problems and bring positive change for our world.
Wing Haven
Just a few generations ago two extraordinary women named Elizabeth lived and gardened just down the street from one another. Together, they made Ridgewood Avenue in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the most famous addresses in Southern garden history. Their legacy continues with the addition of an outdoor exploration garden to enhance our guest experience.
The property of Elizabeth and Edwin Clarkson, Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary, is a respite for birds and other wildlife and a welcoming place to discover the beauty and wonders of nature.
Ten houses down on the same side of the street, the property of internationally celebrated garden writer Elizabeth Lawrence, the Elizabeth Lawrence House & Garden, is a dynamic living laboratory featuring an amazing variety of plants with something in bloom every day of the year.
Adjacent to Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary, is the SEED Wildlife & Children’s Garden, an outdoor exploration and learning garden for children of all ages.
Together, these vibrant historic and newer properties are known as Wing Haven, a unique destination that inspires passion for the natural world.
