SUMMARY

Green hydrogen is emerging as a key pillar of India’s transition towards a low-carbon and energy-secure economy, with an increase in developing a domestic production and manufacturing ecosystem. It is in decarbonisation of hard-to-abate energy-intensive sectors, the global energy crisis and evolving .

Renewable energy developers are increasingly expanding into integrated green hydrogen and derivatives production, while domestic manufacturing plans for electrolysers and associated equipment are scaling up rapidly. India is also positioning itself as a competitive supplier in the global green hydrogen and derivative market as countries across Europe and Asia seek reliable low-carbon fuel sources growing concerns over energy security and fossil fuel market volatility.

India’s green hydrogen ecosystem has policy and regulatory progress over the past year. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently notified separate standards for green ammonia and green methanol, building on the previously announced green hydrogen standards. Further, the launch of the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme of India marks a significant step towards establishing a national framework for measuring and verifying the greenhouse gas intensity of domestically produced hydrogen. These initiatives are being complemented by existing incentives for green hydrogen and electrolyser production, along with the waiver of interstate transmission system charges renewable energy used green hydrogen projects.

Falling renewable energy costs, advancements in electrolyser technologies and rising global demand for low-carbon fuels and derivatives are strengthening the business case for green hydrogen in India. The sector is now moving beyond policy intent and pilot projects towards tangible on-ground implementation.

Green hydrogen projects are now being commissioned across the steel, refinery and industrial manufacturing sectors. Further, the conclusion of the green ammonia tender for the fertilizer industry was a major milestone. SECI has already signed supply agreements for green ammonia with fertiliser companies, paving the way for significant capacity additions over the next few years.

Despite the growing momentum, several challenges continue to constrain large-scale adoption. High production costs, limited long-term demand visibility and gaps in storage, transportation and port infrastructure remain key concerns. Going forward, availability of affordable round-the-clock renewable power, stronger domestic demand creation, greater policy certainty, regular auction mechanisms and coordinated infrastructure planning will be essential for scaling the sector and achieving the targets under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

This two-day conference will provide a platform for policymakers, regulators, state agencies, renewable energy developers, large industrial consumers, oil and gas

companies, electrolyser manufacturers, transport players, technology providers, researchers, consultants, legal firms and investors to deliberate on policy measures, upcoming projects, early experiences and plans of stakeholders, technology development, cost economics, export potential existing opportunities in the green hydrogen space.
