The 2026 Joint Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) User Facility/Atmospheric System Research (ASR) Principal Investigators (PI) Meeting will be held virtually July 21 & 23 and August 12, 2026.
The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) User Facility provides the research community with strategically located atmospheric observatories to improve the understanding and representation of cloud, aerosol, and precipitation processes in earth system models in support of DOE’s science, energy, and national security missions. The Atmospheric System Research (ASR) program supports use of atmospheric observations, primarily from the ARM user facility, together with data-driven modeling, artificial intelligence (AI), and/or laboratory studies to address fundamental atmospheric physics and chemistry questions. ASR research is focused on cloud, aerosol, precipitation, radiation, and turbulence processes and their interactions with the land surface, that are critical to transforming our understanding of nature and improving predictability of precipitation, icing, flooding, winds, drought, and other stresses that impact U.S. energy systems and national security.
The 2026 joint user facility/PI meeting will provide a venue for ASR principal investigators (PIs) and ARM scientific facility users to learn about existing ARM capabilities and provide input to the facility, present their latest research result, discuss and develop new scientific ideas, and promote scientific exchange and coordination.
The 2026 meeting will be wholly virtual and will include plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and poster sessions. Plenary sessions will be open to the scientific community to ensure a broad exchange of scientific ideas and will highlight ARM and ASR investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) aligned with DOE’s Genesis Mission. Breakout sessions will foster in depth discussions about high priority scientific research topics and poster sessions will allow ASR PIs and ARM facility users to present their latest research results.
