Emerging Contaminants in Stormwater
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of emerging contaminants which have been receiving heightened regulatory scrutiny, including federal and multiple states adding PFAS requirements when issuing new, renewed, or modified National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. Careful navigation of both federal and state regulatory developments is important to maintain compliance, control of PFAS monitoring strategies, correct application of monitoring/assessment procedures, and program cost.
This presentation will provide some information to help explain current developments and complexities including regulatory changes, when NPDES permit modifications may be needed, various potential sampling methodologies, pre-treatment considerations and advantages of source reduction planning.
