2) PRESSURE EQUIPMENT SAFETY REGULATIONS (PESR) and PRESSURE SYSTEMS SAFETY REGULATIONS (PSSR)
Keeping track of legislation that impacts on engineering activities.
Many companies are sinking under wave after wave of legislation and compliance requirements. Whilst larger organisations have people who are specifically employed to keep track and help their company comply, many companies cannot afford this expensive resource or solution.
For these companies it is a major challenge to keep abreast and comply with the legislation without running foul of Regulators, whilst at the same time keeping spending in proportion. Many are therefore looking for cost effective solutions. TÜV Rheinland has a number of people who on a daily basis are emerged in understanding, interpreting, and applying UK legislation. It is routinely engaged by organisations, large and small, to help with their understanding and compliance issues. Getting matters into perspective is a first important step.
To that end TÜV Rheinland has pooled its extensive knowledge and pulled together a one day awareness course, to provide an understanding of the various aspects of legislation. Working through the legislation can be daunting but TÜV Rheinland follows a simple hierarchy which allows the important messages to be understood and applied.
1) PROVISION AND USE OF WORK EQUIPMENT REGULATIONS (PUWER)
There are few specific legal requirements relating to mechanical engineering practices. However, the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations and PUWER mean that the hazards associated with operating and maintaining machinery plus work equipment must be identified and, systems such as training, supervision, information and instructions introduced to mitigate the hazards.

2) PRESSURE EQUIPMENT SAFETY REGULATIONS (PESR) AND PRESSURE SYSTEMS SAFETY REGULATIONS (PSSR)
UK regulations for static pressure equipment e.g. pressure vessels, pipework, pipelines, pressure relief, are discussed in two separate modules.
PESR covers the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of new pressure equipment, including current status of the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) since transition from Brexit.
PSSR covers the in-service aspects of pressure systems in terms of design, operation, maintenance, periodic examination, modification and repair. An overview and history of UK regulations affecting pressure equipment, and the Pipeline Safety Regulations (PSR) and how they combine are also discussed.
