Who can participate in the International Emory Global Health Case Competition?
Graduate and undergraduate students enrolled at accredited universities are invited to participate. Teams should be comprised of four to six students, and at least three different schools within your university must be represented. For example, your team could include students from your university’s nursing, medical, and business schools. Or your team could include students from your university’s public health, law, and theology schools. The combination of disciplines does not matter so long as you have at least three different schools represented. Post-graduate and post-doctoral fellows are not eligible to participate if they are not currently enrolled as students in a degree-seeking program at your university.

How does a guest university apply?
Guest universities may apply to participate online from Monday, October 7 - Monday, October 14, 2019. An APPLY NOW button will appear and go live on this website at 12:00 pm Eastern time on Monday, October 7 and will remain live until 8:00 pm Eastern time on Monday, October 14, 2019. Teams will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. After many discussions regarding how to include teams, we continue to believe that the first-come, first-served policy is the fairest. Therefore, please ensure that you apply as early as you can during the application period as it fills up very quickly. If you are not one of the first 29 teams to apply, you will have the option to be placed on our waitlist.

If your team is accepted to participate, every team member must update his or her application information by Friday, February 14, 2020. We will not make exceptions - we must have this information for each team member by this date. Information on how to update your team application will be emailed to the main team contact once the initial application period ends if your team has been accepted to participate. We will also post this information on the logistics page of this site.

When will I be notified if my team is accepted?

You will receive immediate notification that your team's application has been received. We will alert you of your team's selection status by Friday, October 18, 2019.

If my team is not one of the first 29 teams to register, will there be a waitlist?

Yes, your team will be contacted to confirm your interest in remaining on the waitlist.

What will be the cost involved for guest universities to participate?

Due to the rising costs associated with coordinating the competition, EGHI has increased the registration fee to $1,000 per team. If your team is selected to participate, you must submit a $1,000 non-refundable application fee to us by December 15, 2019. We will provide most meals and lodging during your stay at Emory. Teams will be responsible for paying for their travel to and from Atlanta, GA. Because we will alert you of your team's selection status by October 18, this should give you ample time to collect and submit your application fee.

To whom do I send my application fee?

Please pay your application fee via credit card at this site. While we strongly prefer that you pay via credit card, we understand that may not be possible for everyone. If you are unable to pay via credit card, please contact us  at globalhealthcasecomp@emory.edu and we will work with your university regarding its payment method.

Do I need to have confirmed team members to apply?

No. Guest university teams can change individual participants up until February 14, 2020, at which time final participant information will be required. Once your team has been accepted to participate, you will be emailed a link to an online registration form where all team members can enter required personal information in order to best host you and pay you, should your team win a prize. The form will be emailed to the main team contact on October 18, the day you will be notified if your team has been accepted to participate in the competition.

Required Initial Application Information (for October 7-14 application period)

To apply as a guest university team, you will need the following information:

  • If your university is interested in being placed on a waiting list
  • Anticipated number of team members

Updating Your Team Application (October 19, 2019 - February 14, 2020)

If your university's team is one of the first 29 to apply, you will need to update your team's application with required individual team member information by February 14, 2020. We cannot make exceptions to this deadline as we need individual team members' information by that time for event planning purposes. The link will be emailed to the main team contact on October 18. This link will take you to an online registration form that will allow you to complete your application by providing required information for each individual on your team.

In addition to detailed individual team member information, we ask if your team plans to bring a mentor (faculty or staff member) from your university with you. If you do, please indicate that person's name and his or her interest in having dinner with Emory Global Health Institute staff members the evening of Friday, March 13, 2020.
