ACFP Road Shows - Meeting You Where You’re at: In-Person CPD in Your Community
The Alberta College of Family Physicians (ACFP) is pleased to launch our newest initiative, the ACFP Road Shows.
It is designed to bring small, in-person CPD opportunities to communities outside our usual urban centres. These sessions will be practical, relevant, and shaped by local primary care needs.
With an abundance of virtual CPD available, this program will focus on creating tailored, in-person events that foster high-quality learning and connections among local primary care providers.
Additional Member Engagement
In addition to taking in CPD in your community, local members will also have a chance to connect with ACFP staff and Board members to share what is on their minds.
Program Details
Join us in Medicine Hat on Thursday, October 15th for a deep-dive into healthcare for newcomers to Canada.
This session was developed in partnership with a planning committee of local and rural family physicians.
We’ll begin at 5:30 pm with a full dinner and networking, followed by the presentation at 7:00 pm.
Session Title: Addressing Migration, Integration, and Health Access for Newcomers to Canada
Speaker: Dr. Annalee Coakley
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe migration in the Canadian context and pre-departure screening of newcomers
- Review post-arrival health assessments and recommended screening for newcomers
- Identify and manage common resettlement issues affecting the health of immigrants and refugees in Canada
- Recognize common mental health concerns, including trauma and PTSD, among newcomers and refugees
