Engagement Workshop
November 5-6, 2025

Washington, D.C.
Note on federal government operations: The meeting will still take place; however, we are closely monitoring developments as we understand they may affect the role of NSF in our agenda. We will update participants immediately with any new information.
UIDP, with support from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF Award #2534143), is organizing the ExLENT Program PI Engagement Workshop to strengthen and expand the nation’s emerging technology workforce.
The NSF Experiential Learning for Emerging and Novel Technologies (ExLENT) program, co-funded by NSF and the Micron Foundation, addresses the urgent need for skilled workers in critical technology areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum information science, microelectronics, and advanced manufacturing. By supporting hands-on, cross-sector learning experiences, ExLENT opens career pathways for individuals from all backgrounds, including those from nontraditional education routes, while advancing U.S. competitiveness and innovation capacity.
This workshop will bring together ExLENT principal investigators and NSF program leaders for a day and a half of knowledge sharing, problem solving, and collaboration. Participants will exchange best practices, address shared challenges, and explore strategies for sustaining and scaling their programs. Structured networking opportunities from topic-driven lunch discussions to small-group dinners will foster connections across the ExLENT community and strengthen the collective effort to build a future-ready workforce.
Format
- This workshop will follow a structured, interactive format designed to encourage candid discussion, peer-to-peer learning, and the exchange of best practices. The program will combine facilitated breakout sessions by program track, plenary discussions, and dedicated one-on-one office hours with NSF program officers to allow participants individualized guidance and feedback.
- Activities will include case study presentations, structured problem-solving in small groups, collaborative idea generation, and networking opportunities such as topic-based lunch discussions and optional small-group dinners.
All discussions will follow the Chatham House Rule to promote candid dialogue and the open exchange of ideas.
