Explore the potential of agrivoltaics and the power of partnerships at NC State’s Lake Wheeler Field Lab Agrivoltaics Training Site. This early-stage utility-scale solar demonstration and training installation features the innovative Nevados TRACE™ All-Terrain Tracker system and illustrates how renewable energy technologies can support agricultural operations while creating valuable hands-on learning opportunities for students and professionals.
The Agrivoltaics Training Site is an interdisciplinary collaboration among the NC Clean Energy Technology Center, NC State’s Department of Animal Science, and solar industry partner Nevados. Together, these partners are exploring how solar technology, grazing, and land management can be integrated as the site evolves—and how partners can play a role in shaping what comes next.
These guided tours are designed for attendees interested in how agrivoltaics are tested, taught, and scaled in practice, and who want to help shape what these systems could become in the Southeast.
Registration is required to attend all tours.

About the Tour
The Agrivoltaics Training Site is located in an agricultural field.
- Sheep may or may not be present for all tours. Please reference the particular tour's description for more information.
- Closed-toed shoes/boots are highly recommended (no high heels, flip flops, sandals, etc.)
- Long pants are recommended but not required.
- The Agrivoltaics Training Site is located on NC State University's campus, and all campus rules must be followed at all times:
- No weapons of any kind
- No smoking on the property
Parking & Transportation Information
- Parking is available at the field lab parking lot or along the lane. Parking at the lab does not require a campus parking permit.
