We are delighted to welcome HHJ Brenda Hildebrant to share reflections from the Bench with our STEP community.
HHJ Hildebrant was an integral member of the working group responsible for the revisions to Part 16 of The King’s Bench Rules. She will provide an overview of the changes, the considerations that informed them, and, importantly, why they were implemented and what they are intended to achieve in the estate application process. Her comments will offer practitioners valuable context for understanding not only the requirements of the revised Rules, but also the Court’s expectations when estate applications come before it.
Drawing on her experience on the Bench, HHJ Hildebrant will also share observations on contentious estate matters and estate litigation, including how the Court approaches competing evidence and legal positions, recurring issues that give rise to concern, and the factors that can assist the Court in resolving difficult estate disputes.
This will be a unique opportunity for STEP members to hear directly from the Bench about both the evolving estate application process and the practical realities of contentious estate proceedings in Saskatchewan.
