Course Overview

Course Description

Learn how to set up or enhance project management functions, training, or a project management office (PMO) for your team or organization. Project management is one of the most critical functions for any organization to accomplish strategic initiatives while also balancing daily operations. Most organizations require the ability to successfully implement project management processes to meet operational or strategic objectives on a consistent basis. This course will provide the tools and skills to set up or enhance project management functions for your organization and team to thrive, while leading team members that perform project management.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for organizational leaders (ex: Managers, Directors, or Executives), and will provide instruction on utilizing project management to drive results in their organization.  This is geared towards those leaders that may have a basic understanding of project management, but could benefit from leading teams or departments that are performing project management to maximize the results and impact.  Lastly, effective project sponsorship is one of the most important variables in achieving project success-this course will clearly how to provide effective project sponsorship.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, the you will: 

1. Be able to understand and apply the benefits of project management and project management offices (PMOs)
2. Have the tools and abilities to set up, enhance, and/or deploy project management depts/teams within their organization to achieve strategic goals and drive impact and outcomes
3. Develop a thorough understanding of best practices in training and equipping project management resources to best support the organization
4. Gain a comprehensive understanding of strategies and best practices for developing project management talent and building organizational capability
5. Have a clear understanding of the attributes required to serve as a successful project sponsor and ability to apply these concepts as a current or future project sponsor

Instructor

Eric Gentzel

Eric is an experienced and successful strategic consulting leader with 21 years of experience in project/program management, strategic leadership, training/facilitation, and leadership development. Eric has served in the U.S. Army for over 21 years between active duty and reserve, and currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel and adjunct instructor for the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officers Course (CGSOC). He co-founded and leads The Overwatch Partnership, a veteran mentoring nonprofit, and also provides strategic project management and PMO consulting services for NeuZeit Group. His career includes diverse project management and operational leadership experiences with Deloitte Consulting, Navigator Management Partners, and OhioHealth. Eric is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Prosci Change Management certified, and received a Master of Public Administration degree from UNC-Charlotte. Eric also serves as an instructor for The Ohio State University Management Advancement for the Public Service (MAPS) program.

Waitlist
What happens if I am on a waitlist for a course? You will receive an email confirming you have been added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified by email.  

CEU and CPE Policy
Attendance in this course can earn:

• 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
• 7.2 Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs)

Attendance is recorded at check-in at the start of the day, and full CEU or CPE credit is awarded based on an honor system, with the expectation that participants are present and actively engaged for the full MAPS course.

Course Certificate
Your course certificate will be emailed to you following the course. It will reflect your Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs) earned and your attendance of the course. 

Photography
The Ohio State University may occasionally take pictures during educational events for use in program communication. If you do not want to be photographed during this course, please email the MAPS team at glenn-training@osu.edu.

MAPS Membership 
A MAPS member receives a discounted rate of $250 for each course with the initial purchase of at least 12 credits. Each credit equals one course for one individual.
