See the Learning, Shape the Learning: A Visible Learning Institute

This virtual institute explores how to make teaching and learning visible by applying key insights from Visible Learning research to everyday classroom practice. Join John and Kierstan as we examine what the evidence says about the factors that most influence student achievement and how teachers can intentionally design learning experiences that surface student thinking, clarify expectations, and make progress transparent.

Throughout the institute, we will engage with high‑impact practices such as learning intentions and success criteria, feedback that moves learning forward, deliberate practice, and teacher clarity. They will learn how to create conditions where students understand what they are learning, how well they are learning it, and what to do next.

We will also develop the habits of expert noticing—seeing learning as it happens, identifying patterns in student responses, and interpreting evidence to guide instructional decisions. By the end of the institute, educators will leave with a practical, research‑aligned toolkit for making learning visible and increasing their impact on student outcomes.

Learning Intention

Today we are learning about Visible Learning principles so that we can apply them to make teaching and learning visible in ways that strengthen student understanding and accelerate progress.

Success Criteria

By the end of the institute:

1. I can design learning experiences that make learning visible.

2. I can notice and interpret evidence with greater precision.

3. I can use evidence to make informed instructional decisions.
