Fundamentals of Statistical Literacy
A Biostatistics Short Course

The Fundamentals of Statistical Literacy Short Course will help you improve your ability to critically assess literature and understand and communicate biostatistical issues. Topics are introduced and discussed in the context of the research process and tied back to phases of research that investigators will understand.

Schedule of Topics:

Week 1: Introduction/statistics in the research process

Week 2: Proportions and confidence intervals

Week 3: Hypothesis testing and multiple comparisons

Week 4: Variable types, effect sizes, & sample size determinations

Week 5: Statistical modeling principles 

Week 6: Contrasting associations with causal effects

The class is structured as an hour interactive lecture followed by a discussion and practice session. Students may opt to attend an interactive lecture before the discussion session or watch a pre-recording. A certificate of completion will be provided by attending and completing all class activities for 5 discussion sections.

This introductory short course does not replace formal education in biostatistics. Continuous attendance is encouraged.

A certificate of completion will be provided with 5 out of 6 online lectures attended either live or reviewing the recording.

Virtual Course Fee: $340.00
