C4-60: From Kranz to Crops - Celebrating 60 Years of C4 Discovery. - International Conference on Photosynthesis Research: ICPR2026

Nearly ten years ago, the C4 photosynthesis community gathered for an excellent and memorable meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of C4 photosynthesis in Canberra. We will regather the C4 photosynthesis community via a satellite meeting in Lancaster, UK to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the discovery of C4 photosynthesis.

This C4-60 meeting will reflect the breadth of the C4 photosynthesis community, including confirmed talks from, for example, legacy of C4 photosynthesis research (e.g., Robert Furbank, Rowan Sage), established C4 researchers (e.g., Oula Ghannoum, Julian Hibberd, Andreas Weber, Steve Kelly, Asaph Cousins, Andrew Leakey), mid-career (e.g., Pallavi Singh, Maria Ermakova, Florence Danila, Luke Dunning), and early career C4 researchers (e.g., Yuzhen Fan, Author Leung, Tina Schreier) from around the world.

When combined with abstract-selected participants, this meeting will offer an unparallelled opportunity to collate progress and opportunities in C4 research, network, and inspire the next generation of leaders working on C4 photosynthesis.

This satellite meeting aims to host ~150 attendees at Lancaster University over three days: 23 - 25 July 2026. Delegates would arrive by the evening of Thursday 23 July and depart together on a hired coach to the ICPR’26 meeting in Liverpool on Sunday 26 July.
