Throughout Scripture, God’s people have turned to song when ordinary words could not hold the weight of their experience. As chaplains serving in military, correctional, healthcare, and other settings, we know well the spaces where language falters—where trauma, grief, and moral injury strain even our most careful prayers. Yet even there, God’s presence does not fall silent.

Gathering in Nashville—a city shaped by honest storytelling through music—we will listen for Scripture’s ancient songs, for the stories of those we serve, and for the quiet melody of God’s steadfast love. This retreat offers both professional development and sabbath keeping, renewing us as bearers of hope and compassionate presence.

This retreat is open to all current UMEA clergy in good standing (2025 report on file) and a spouse (where applicable). We recommend arriving by late afternoon on Monday, October 26, and planning to depart on Friday, October 30. The retreat will conclude at 4:00 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Full participants are eligible for 1 unit of CEUs. More information will be given at the retreat about this. 

We kindly ask that participants honor the dress code of “business casual". Participants are welcome to embrace the Nashville setting by wearing western or country attire, if they choose.
