How to Get Industry to Listen and Invest
Getting industry to pay attention to your technology is only the first step. Earning real investment takes credibility, timing, and a story that holds up under scrutiny, while still protecting the relationships and equity you have worked hard to build.
In this session, Howard Schwartz, Partner at DLA Piper, draws on his experience advising founders and investors through the earliest and most consequential stages of company formation. You will learn how to move technology out of Johns Hopkins labs in a way that earns industry's confidence rather than raising red flags, and how to raise capital without giving away more of the company than the moment requires.
Participants will gain guidance on how to:
Move technology out of the lab while preserving key relationships
Avoid unnecessary early dilution as the company grows
Approach fundraising strategically, from first check to later rounds
Balance the competing demands of the clinic, the lab, and the boardroom
