The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) will host Heirs’ Property and Land Trusts in Texas: Unlocking Ownership, Accessing Capital, and Building Generational Wealth. This convening will focus on addressing barriers to clear property ownership, expanding access to capital, and identifying strategies that preserve homeownership and strengthen long-term household and community resilience across Texas.
This forum will bring together FDIC-supervised financial institutions, community development financial institutions (CDFIs), legal service providers, housing organizations, community development corporations (CDCs), community land trusts, researchers, local government representatives, and other stakeholders to discuss practical approaches for resolving heirs’ property challenges and increasing access to banking services, credit, insurance, home repair assistance, disaster recovery resources, and sustainable homeownership opportunities.
The discussion will examine the impact of heirs’ property on household financial stability, neighborhood preservation, and generational wealth-building; explore practical legal pathways for clearing title and implementing succession planning strategies; address lending and underwriting challenges associated with clouded title to property; and highlight the role of community land trusts in preserving family land, preventing displacement, and promoting long-term housing affordability.
