ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
VetEd AAVMC: A Reimagined Veterinary Educator Collaborative/Symposium
Inspired by the widely acclaimed VetEd model, the inaugural VetEd AAVMC is where faculty members can establish themselves as an educator and education scholar. Under the theme, "It Takes a Village," the conference fosters a collaborative community of veterinary educators that is inclusive, engaging, supportive, and affordable, and features some of the most innovative teaching and learning practices taking place across campuses.
VetEd AAVMC replicates a trend of regional VetEd conferences taking place around the world, and it is the first time a VetEd-style meeting will take place in North America.

Lauren Grider, DVM
Navigating Neurodiversity in Veterinary Education
Explore the definition of neurodiversity, information about various neurotypes, and the prevalence of neurodiversity in the veterinary field with Lauren Grider, DVM, a veterinarian and clinical mental health counselor (therapist).
Participants of all neurotypes will learn about practical strategies for effective interpersonal communication and collaboration with others.
Peter Doolittle, PhD
The Science of Learning and Veterinary Medical Education
Peter Doolittle is professor of educational psychology in the School of Education at Virginia Tech University. His current research includes examining the cognitive and neurological foundations and practical implications and applications of active learning on teaching and learning.
Participants will examine how principles from the science of learning can help veterinary educators build adaptive expertise, enabling them to navigate educational uncertainty, refine their teaching practice, and better prepare students for the complexities of veterinary medicine.
