About the ISO National Climate Champions Network
Climate change is one of the greatest threats of our time. It affects all of us. Climate change is having a profound impact on our ecosystems and it’s a threat multiplier, meaning that it is also exacerbating existing problems, such as water scarcity and famine. Those most vulnerable to its effects will see their lives and livelihoods critically jeopardised.
Since the signing of the London Declaration in September 2021, the ISO system has mobilized to take action on climate change. Given the multitude of climate related work going on across the ISO system, greater coordination is required to amplify our efforts and take them to our stakeholders around the world. Connecting members in a network will amplify the work being done at national level, connect it with ISO’s global efforts, and ensure the exchange of good practices.
Who is the network for?
ISO Members are invited to nominate one representative, as well as an alternate, with a solid knowledge of the organization’s climate action and the drive to amplify it further, to become an ISO National Climate Champion. Both of these individuals will become part of the network.
Each ISO National Climate Champion will:
- Share lessons learned, best practices, and opportunities on implementing climate action in their organization with other ISO Members.
- Be a strong voice promoting climate action within their organization.
- Find synergies and cross-benefits with other Climate Action activities taking place across the ISO system.
- Gain inspiration for how to take Climate Action in their organization to the next level.
- Help colleagues and others understand ISO’s Climate Action strategy and activities so that it can benefit more people and organizations.
- Brief their organization’s leadership about ISO’s Climate Action and outline opportunities for further involvement by the organization.
Why join the ISO National Climate Champions Network?
Being part of the ISO National Climate Champion Network will enable NSBs to:
- Contribute tangibly to the promotion of international standards to support climate change.
- Have a direct channel to stay updated on ISO’s technical work related to climate change.
- Gain understanding in national advocacy related to climate change, supporting organizations in each country to apply international standards related to climate change.
- Raise awareness on their own activities to support climate action.
- Get involved in advocacy at international level, according to their goals, by being involved in ISO’s preparation for global meetings such as UNFCCC Conference of the Parties.
- Get insights on how to reduce the organization's own carbon footprint.
