Dr. Jonathan Velez-Rivera is a board-certified endocrinologist with Orlando Health Physician Associates specializing in diabetes and metabolism. Dr. Velez-Rivera was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 12 years old, and he has dedicated his career to advocating and fostering relationships among peers with Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Velez-Rivera completed an adult endocrinology fellowship at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and served as an assistant professor of endocrinology at Duke University Health Systems. He is certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, in lipidology by the National Lipid Association and in clinical densitometry by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. While at Duke, he led the pediatric-to-adult transition clinic for patients with Type 1 diabetes. He also led a support group and served as faculty adviser for a student organization that helped people with Type 1 diabetes. His peer-reviewed research has appeared in numerous medical journals
