Course Overview
Course Description
Experienced leaders focus their attention on creating both a healthy and productive workplace. With an ever-changing landscape of funding, hiring challenges, and increasing stakeholder demands, leaders benefit from having a simple and straightforward way to make a difference. In this session leaders will focus on six tips that increase leader effectiveness to create the right working conditions for building trust, strengthening teams, and driving better outcomes.
Participants will engage in a series of discussions and exercises about how leaders can create a healthier and more productive workplace. Emphasized is what a leader should focus on to create strong working relationships and ways to get work done. In addition, setting clear standards and how pay impacts the worker experience is covered, as well as how the six tips help leaders create environments that work for different generational preferences.

Instructor

Tayo Switzer is an experienced coach and consultant working with senior leaders since 2001. He has worked for two fortune 500 companies as an internal business management and organization development consultant and from 2008 to 2019 as a leadership coach at The Ohio State University. Following his time at Ohio State, Tayo joined the international business management and technology consulting firm, Centric Consulting, where he focused on coaching leaders and designing programs to build leadership cultures and senior team effectiveness. Before joining Centric he launched his own LLC, Leadership 6 Consulting, which he uses to examine leadership and trustworthiness. In addition, Tayo is an instructor at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University. His recent publications include contributions to Donna Ladkin’s book, Rethinking Leadership: A New Look at Old Questions, and Stephen Gavazzi and David Staley’s book, Fulfilling the 21st Century Land-Grant Mission. Tayo received his Ph.D. in Leadership and Change from Antioch University, his Master’s degree in Organization Development from Bowling Green State University, and his Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from The Ohio State University.

Marjie Hamlett serves as an HR Business Partner at The Ohio State University, where she supports leaders and teams in aligning people practices with organizational goals. In her role, she provides guidance on employee relations, workforce planning, performance management, leadership support, and organizational effectiveness. Marjie partners with units to help navigate complex workplace issues with clarity, care, and practical solutions. She brings a relationship-centered approach to HR, helping leaders strengthen communication, build trust, and support healthy and productive work environments. Through her work, Marjie contributes to Ohio State’s commitment to developing strong teams and advancing the university’s mission.

Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least five (5) business days before the course date to receive a refund. The last day to cancel for this course is November 3, 2026.

Can't make it to the course? You can always send someone in your place. Substitutions can be made until the day of the course, November 10, 2026.

Waitlist
What happens if I am on a waitlist for a course? You will receive an email confirming you have been added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified by email.
CEU and CPE Policy
Attendance in this course can earn:
- 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
- 7.2 Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs)
Attendance is recorded at check-in at the start of the day, and full CEU or CPE credit is awarded based on an honor system, with the expectation that participants are present and actively engaged for the full MAPS course.
Course Certificate
Your course certificate will be emailed to you following the course. It will reflect your Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs) earned and your attendance of the course.
Photography
The Ohio State University may occasionally take pictures during educational events for use in program communication. If you do not want to be photographed during this course, please email the MAPS team at glenn-training@osu.edu.
MAPS Membership
A MAPS member receives a discounted rate of $250 for each course with the initial purchase of at least 12 credits. Each credit equals one course for one individual.
