Chef Gray drew inspiration for this dinner from the recipes of Marcus Gavius Apicius, who was a notorious Roman gourmand from AD 14 to 37. He was famous for sailing around the Mediterranean looking for the biggest prawns he could find.

During the dinner, there will be a discussion led by Curator of Antiquities Susan Masten about the elaborate dining practices of the Romans and of the infamous Herod the Great.
