Summary
A half day course aimed at delegates with little to no experience in process safety.
The course is designed to give delegates a basic introduction to the subject and help with their understanding of what process safety is.
What the course will cover
A basic understanding and awareness of the following subject areas:
- Occupational safety vs. process safety
- Identification and assessment of hazardous events; including flammable hazards, overpressure hazards and toxic releases
- How to determine whether risk is tolerable in the UK
- An introduction to the COMAH regulations, 2015
- Methods of identifying hazards
- Risk assessment techniques
- Protective measures that help to prevent and mitigate hazards
Training method
In an attempt to broaden their knowledge of the topics covered, the trainers actively encourage delegate participation in the discussion of case study findings and recommendations and the sharing of their experiences in industry. Delegates will also benefit from completing an individual risk of fatality for an operator, based on fictional site data, hazard identification and risk assessment documentation.
On completing the course, the delegates should have:
- A basic awareness of process safety and the types of hazardous events that are assessed
- An appreciation of the importance of a thorough hazard identification and risk assessment process
- An basic understanding of the UK COMAH Regulations and the principle of ALARP
