Transforming Challenging Moments with Young Children: FLIP IT Train-the-Trainer Course
Thursdays, May 13 - June 17, 2027, from 12-2 p.m. (ET)
Addressing behavior concerns and supporting social-emotional development in young children are challenging tasks! The adults in children’s lives should feel prepared and equipped with what they need for success. One strategy for success can be the FLIP IT strategy, and this training can help lead to more adults being equipped with it during challenging moments with young children.
What’s the FLIP IT strategy? It is a simple four-step process for addressing behavior concerns for young children (3-8 years old). The four steps are embodied in the FLIP mnemonic, which stands for Feelings, Limits, Inquiries, and Prompts. The FLIP IT strategy can help reduce behavior concerns while also supporting young children’s social-emotional development.
The FLIP IT Train-the-Trainer Course is for individuals who provide training or technical assistance to those working directly with young children. This course will teach participants how to train on and support the use of the FLIP IT strategy. Those who graduate from the course will walk away with the content, skills, and resources necessary to deliver a successful FLIP IT training.
During the course, participants will:
- Observe the author of the FLIP IT strategy, Rachel Wagner, deliver the standardized one-day FLIP IT training to learn about the strategy and the activities, reflections, and techniques used
- Learn to plan for and deliver a FLIP IT training as a one-day FLIP IT training (6.5 hours), as a five-workshop series (1.5 hours for each workshop), and as a virtual training
- Become familiar with the FLIP IT training materials and learn how to use them during a one-to-one coaching relationship with families or teachers
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Be able to quickly and clearly explain each step of the FLIP IT strategy
- Feel confident and prepared to answer a variety of questions that may arise when training/presenting on FLIP IT
- Receive slide decks, trainer notes, a handout packet, a FLIP IT Resource Kit, and more (including some resources translated into Spanish and French)
Please see the "Key Details" tab to learn more about the requirements for attendance, homework assignments, and use of materials following completion of the course. While this course will be a commitment, it is designed to build your knowledge, skill, and application of concepts within your role as a trainer and/or coach.
