Course Description

Advances in immunotherapy, genomic risk stratification, and measurable residual disease (MRD) assessment have significantly influenced the management of plasma cell disorders. A gap remains in the consistent application of these approaches in clinical practice. Areas of need include management of smoldering myeloma, incorporation of MRD into treatment decisions, sequencing therapies in relapsed disease—particularly following BCMA- and GPRC5D-directed treatments—and treatment selection in older or frail patients. Variability also exists in the delivery of advanced therapies, including CAR-T cell therapy and bispecific antibodies, across practice settings.

The Third Annual Plasma Cell Disorders Symposium, presented by Mayo Clinic and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, aims to address these critical gaps and unmet needs through local and global collaboration, evidence-based discussions, and knowledge exchange on patient care management. By fostering a collaborative approach among academic-based and community-based clinicians, researchers, and other key stakeholders, this symposium can advance the field, enhance patient outcomes, and ultimately lay the groundwork for transforming the management of plasma cell disorders.

Learning Objectives

1. Discuss evidence-based insights and expert perspectives that inform clinical decision-making in the management of smoldering myeloma.
2. Review current multiple myeloma diagnostic and risk assessment approaches, utilizing novel genomic and molecular profiling tools, advanced imaging techniques, and minimal residual disease assessments.
3. Describe current evidence-based treatment approaches for incorporating minimal residual disease assessments into clinical practice to guide treatment decisions.
4. Outline the current management strategies for sequencing BCMA- and GPRC5D-directed treatments for relapsed refractory myeloma. Discuss supportive care and delivery care models of these modern therapies.
5. Outline a framework for defining cure in multiple myeloma patients.
