NYU presents the inaugural Exposome & Family Health Summit, an interdisciplinary examination of the multiple components of preventative health: food/nutrition, environment, microbiology, and psychosocial factors. Research shows that many of our modern plagues, inclusive of both chronic and cardiovascular diseases, are increasingly caused by environmental exposures, rather than genetics. What are the exposures of greatest concern and how does this information translate to guidance? Our panel will examine both exogenous and endogenous exposures, the implications of which often do not manifest until many years later. What are endocrine disruptors and how are we exposed? What role does the microbiome play in health and disease? How do antibiotics affect us? Is there an optimal diet for health? Should we let our kids eat dirt? What are the current findings in the epidemiology of children’s mental health?
